Client Overview:
Our client in the private health care business is currently looking has a great opportunity for a Director of HR. Reporting to COO, the Director, Human Resources is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the human resources function.

Job Overview:

• Participate as a member of the senior management group responsible for the overall planning, management, and leadership of the company and affiliate companies.
• Develop and implement effective labor relations strategies to achieve maximum employee engagement in the unionized environments.
• Develop, implement and educate on corporate-wide human resources policies and procedures.
• Proactively manage labor costs to ensure alignment with financial targets.
• Provide human resource guidance and counsel to managers and directors in the areas of performance management, labor relations, employee appreciation/recognition and employee wellness.
• Monitor facilities for compliance with internal human resource policies and practices, and with relevant labor legislation.
• Design new human resource programs as appropriate with the desired outcome of maximizing overall employee engagement in a controlled cost environment.
• Develop HR plans and programs to meet national accreditation standards.
• Act as the Company’s Privacy Officer.
Labour Relations:
• Develop, administer and/or maintain, in conjunction with the VP, Operations and President & CEO, the framework for labour negotiations at each facility.
• Lead labour negotiations as chief negotiator on first collective agreements and extensions.
• Through the HR Advisors, assist Facility General Managers in the interpretation and application of collective agreement language.
• Assist the VP Operations with the annual Compensation Adjustment Process including grading of positions, creation of salary ranges, comparison to detailed market research, with the presentation of final recommendations for approval by the President and CEO. Adjust front-line wages as necessary to alleviate resulting recruiting challenges.
Performance Management:
• Facilitate the development of performance management systems to support all management in effectively providing collaborative performance feedback to employees. Ensure any employee discipline is progressive and follows corporate policies and procedures. Design, implement and support employee recognition and appreciation programs , ensuring effectiveness in achieving meaningful appreciation and recognition. Where possible, develop and implement creative performance incentive programs to maximize employee engagement.
Communication and Feedback:
• Maintain a solid knowledge of employee morale by ensuring HR attendance at Facility Staff Meetings. Plan, design and oversee the administration of satisfaction surveys to assess employee engagement, creating subsequent action plans. Oversee the exit interview program and continually review results, bringing operational effectiveness concerns to the attention of the management team.
Employee Wellness:
• Coordinate health promotion and worker safety programs. Ensure facilities are in compliance with health and safety legislation and regulations. Implement employee wellness initiatives as appropriate. Centralize practices to maximize effectiveness, such as the management of WCB claims and absenteeism.

• University graduate in a program related to business administration or human resources.
• CHRP candidates or designates are preferred.
• Minimum ten years human resources and labour relations experience including at least five years experience in a human resource management role.
• Previous experience in the health care industry is a strong asset.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an effective written and oral communication style.
• An ability to manage multiple critical timelines.
• Knowledge of applicable labour, employment, human rights and privacy legislation.
