One of our clients, an engineering firm in Vancouver is looking for a Controller to join their team. The company is a well-established firm offering full-service structural engineering, with offices in Canada and Switzerland.

You will be reporting to the Director of Finance and is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the company’s financial accounting, reporting, and internal controls to support the business in achieving its strategic targets.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Hands-on management of day-to-day full-cycle accounting and cash management
  • Oversee and support Project Accounting, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable functions
  • Manage payroll for North American employees and the compilation of payroll information and maintenance of payroll records for the group through our HRIS. This includes the production and distribution of year-end payroll reporting and tax submission.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers
  • Lead financial coordination and integration of all international counterparts, overseeing inter-company reconciliations, billing, and accounting
  • Manage the North American accounting team within the month-end close process, including the oversight and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, reporting, and investigating variance to budget, and managing internal controls to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of financial statements and reporting
  • Prepare financial statements and other reporting as required
  • Manage internal year-end close process and hand-off to external accountants for a formal close
  • Develop and maintain a documented system of procedures to ensure efficient operation (systems, processes, and controls) and accuracy of financial reporting
  • Investigate areas of opportunity for streamlining within the finance function, provide recommendations, and implement process improvements
  • Support with the annual budget and semi-annual forecasting processes
  • Manage regulatory and jurisdictional reporting and filing for the Company’s North American office locations
  • Other accounting/analysis tasks and projects as assigned.

Experience & Education:

  • Qualified Accounting Designation is required: CPA (CA, CMA or CGA) designation
  • Minimum 5-7 years of full cycle accounting experience (AR, AP, Payroll, GL, Consolidation including intercompany transactions, foreign exchange, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the consulting engineering and architectural industry will be considered an asset

Professional Skills:

  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office programs
  • Well-organized, detailed, and accurate
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage confidential information
  • Excellent judgment, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to gather and analyze information with an aptitude for critical thinking
  • Experience with intercompany, multi-currency, and international accounting reconciliations and coordination is essential.
  • Experience with the implementation and adoption of a new ERP / accounting software will be considered an asset
  • Experience with US accounting compliance and best practice is an asset

SALARY RANGE

CA $90,000 – $105,000

This position is office-based and subject to a Hybrid Work Policy (up to 2 days of remote work per week).
